What are dental implants
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that replaces the root of a missing tooth. It is placed into the upper or lower jawbone where, through a natural biological process called osseointegration, it fuses firmly with the bone over the course of a few months.

The procedure step by step
Evaluation and 3D CT scan
Analysis of the panoramic X-ray and 3D CT scan to measure bone volume and density and digitally plan the position of each implant.
Implant placement

Osseointegration
The implant fuses with the bone over about 3-6 months. During this phase a temporary prosthesis is usually worn.
Abutment and definitive crown
Once integration is complete, the abutment and the definitive zirconia or ceramic crown are fitted, made to measure.

Recovery and healing times
In the first 2-3 days swelling and mild discomfort may appear, manageable with common painkillers and ice. Most patients resume normal activities within 24-48 hours. In the first weeks a soft diet is recommended and it is important to avoid smoking, which slows healing. Complete osseointegration generally takes 3-6 months, at the end of which the definitive prosthesis is fitted.
