What are dental crowns
A dental crown is a fixed prosthesis that completely covers a damaged, root-treated or aesthetically compromised tooth, restoring its shape, function and natural appearance.
Zirconia is today's reference material: a biocompatible ceramic oxide, extremely strong and metal-free, which eliminates the risk of the visible grey margin typical of old metal-ceramic crowns.
Crowns are used on weakened natural teeth, after root canal treatment, or on dental implants to replace missing teeth.
The materials we use
Monolithic zirconia
Maximum resistance to chewing, ideal for posterior teeth. Made from a single block of zirconia, practically indestructible in everyday use.
Layered zirconia
A zirconia core covered in ceramic for superior translucency. The ideal balance between strength and aesthetics for visible teeth.
E-max (lithium disilicate)
The most aesthetic choice for front teeth: translucency very similar to natural enamel, for an invisible result.
Implant crown
Zirconia or E-max crowns fixed onto dental implants to replace missing teeth, from €150 per crown.
Same-day crowns with the CEREC system
With CEREC technology (chairside CAD/CAM) we design and mill your crown directly in the clinic, in high-quality ceramic, in a single session.
No traditional impression, no temporary crown, no second visit: digital scan, computer design, milling and cementation on the same day.
It is the ideal solution for patients coming from abroad who want to complete their treatment in a single trip.
Digital scan
3D scan of the prepared tooth, with no impression paste.
CAD design
The crown is designed on the computer around your anatomy.
In-clinic milling
The ceramic block is milled by our CEREC unit.
Same-day fitting
Try-in, finishing and definitive cementation in the same session.
When a dental crown is needed
Root-treated tooth
After root canal treatment a tooth becomes fragile: the crown protects it from fractures.
Fractured or heavily decayed tooth
When a filling is no longer enough, the crown rebuilds the tooth and restores its function.
Compromised aesthetics
Severely discoloured or malformed teeth regain their natural shape and colour.
On an implant
To complete a dental implant by replacing the missing tooth.
The procedure step by step
Evaluation and preparation
Examination of the tooth, root canal treatment if needed and preparation of the surface to receive the crown.
Scan or impression
Digital scan of the prepared tooth — no traditional paste impression.
Making the crown
With CEREC on the same day in suitable cases, or in our laboratory in 3-5 days for complex work.
Try-in and cementation
Check of shape, colour and occlusion, then definitive cementation.
Check-ups
Occlusion check and periodic hygiene for maximum longevity.
How long does a zirconia crown last
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, a zirconia crown lasts on average 10-15 years and often longer. Zirconia does not stain, does not chip easily and keeps its colour over time. We offer a written warranty on prosthetic work.

Frequently asked questions about dental crowns
How much does a zirconia crown cost in Albania?
At Durres Dental Clinic zirconia crowns start from €150. In Western Europe the same crown costs on average €800-1,200: the saving is 60-70% with the same materials.
Zirconia or E-max — which is better?
It depends on the position: zirconia offers maximum strength and is ideal for posterior teeth, E-max has superior translucency and is the more aesthetic choice for front teeth. They are often combined in the same treatment plan.
Can I really have a crown in one day?
Yes, in suitable cases. With the CEREC system we scan, design and mill the crown in the clinic in the same session. For extensive work or particular aesthetic requirements, our laboratory makes it in 3-5 days.
How long does a zirconia crown last?
On average 10-15 years, often longer with good oral hygiene and regular check-ups. Zirconia does not stain and resists chewing very well.
Will the crown look different from my natural teeth?
No. Colour, shape and translucency are personalised on your smile. With layered zirconia and E-max the result is practically indistinguishable from a natural tooth.
Does getting a crown hurt?
No. The preparation of the tooth is done under local anaesthesia and is painless. In the following days there may be mild sensitivity, which resolves on its own.
How many days do I need to stay in Albania for crowns?
With CEREC, even a single day for individual cases. For several crowns or complete laboratory work, generally 3-5 days.
What is the difference from old metal-ceramic crowns?
Zirconia crowns are metal-free: no grey margin at the gumline, better biocompatibility, superior aesthetics and lighter weight, with equal or greater strength.
Are the crowns guaranteed?
Yes, we offer a written warranty on prosthetic work. We also give you the certificate of the materials used.
